Beyond the Observable Universe

A Collection of Poems

by Daniel Dischino, photography by Elizabeth Amigo-Dischino

We are the universe contemplating itself — and each of us a single neuron in its vast consciousness.

In Beyond the Observable Universe, poet Daniel Dischino turns his gaze both outward and inward, tracing the connections between cosmos and consciousness in verse that is by turns meditative, playful, and profound. Organized into thematic movements — Natural Science, Reflection, Time, Mind, and Tales — the collection moves from quiet observations of moonlight, birdsong, and morning walks to sweeping contemplations of eternity, mortality, and the search for meaning.

Along the way, readers will journey down a spiraling rainbow path of color and chakra, wrestle with the war between spirit and flesh, and descend into a modern reimagining of Dante’s Inferno before climbing back toward the light. Whether pondering time as “a strange abstraction” or finding the sacred in fresh-cut grass and distant train whistles, Dischino writes with the wonder of a stargazer and the honesty of a man taking stock of his own life.

For readers of contemplative and philosophical poetry, Beyond the Observable Universe is an invitation to look up, look within, and discover that the two views are one and the same.

About the Author

Daniel Dischino

Daniel Dischino is a poet from Massachusetts. His first book, Conscious Energy, gathers his earlier poetry into a philosophical and spiritual journey drawn from fifty years of living and witnessing this beautiful life. He hopes his poems promote thought rather than relay ideas, because when we stop questioning, especially ourselves, we stop growing.

His work has appeared in multiple Red Hibiscus anthologies and as the opening poem of LeeAnn Roberts’s novel Immortal Magic, and he has written lyrics for the Canadian band The Rachel Walker Trio and the Boston band Terminal 51.
